La afluencia de gente a este entorno se cuenta por millares semanalmente, tanto por su importancia religiosa como por su entorno natural, ya que esta situado dentro mismo de la sierra Mariola y de su parque natural.<\/p>\n<p>La tradici\u00f3n narra que el \u00faltimo d\u00eda de agosto del a\u00f1o 1484, la Parroquia de Santa Mar\u00eda de Alicante se incendi\u00f3 por completo, y que la Imagen de la Virgen desapareci\u00f3.<\/p>\n<p>A la ma\u00f1ana siguiente, en Agres pas\u00f3 un gran acontecimiento, \u201c La Venida de la Virgen\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Seg\u00fan cuenta la historia, un pastor, Gaspar Tomas, fue el que encontr\u00f3 a la Virgen, encima de un almez en las ruinas del castillo musulm\u00e1n.<\/p>\n<p>All\u00ed fue donde la Virgen di\u00f3 al pastor el brazo que le faltaba. Esta ser\u00e1 la prueba ante el pueblo de la aparici\u00f3n de la Virgen.<\/p>\n<p>La Imagen fue transportada a la iglesia, pero al d\u00eda siguiente hab\u00eda desaparecido. Y se encontr\u00f3 nuevamente en el lugar donde hab\u00eda aparecido. Por ello, interpretaron que el deseo de la Virgen era ser venerada en aquel mismo lugar, construy\u00e9ndose en un principio una humilde ermita.<\/p>\n<p>A finales del a\u00f1o 1577 se autoriz\u00f3 a la fundaci\u00f3n del Convento de la Virgen del Castillo de Agres, gracias a la afluencia de los devotos de la Virgen. El a\u00f1o siguiente comenzaron las obras, y acab\u00f3 siendo habitado por religiosos franciscanos hasta la segunda mitad del siglo XX.<\/p>\n<p>La primitiva capilla fue ampliada. Se construy\u00f3 una iglesia de una \u00fanica nave muy sencilla y de estilo renacentista. La pr\u00e1ctica de la pobreza era el punto central de los religiosos, de ah\u00ed la sencillez del edificio construido ya que nunca ha sido de grandes proporciones arquitect\u00f3nicas. En su primera \u00e9poca destac\u00f3 por su modestia y austeridad. El principal ingreso de la casa proced\u00eda de la limosna y las ofrendas de los fieles. En las \u00e9pocas de recolecci\u00f3n de frutos, los religiosos ped\u00edan aquello que se recog\u00eda solo en los pueblos de Agres y Alfafara. Pero fue tal el reconocimiento y la asistencia que se realizaba al Santuario de la Virgen, que a petici\u00f3n del Rey Felipe II, el Papa Sixto V otorg\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 1586 una bula que conced\u00eda la gracia de pedir limosna por todos los reinos de Espa\u00f1a. Concesi\u00f3n que fue confirmada por Benedigto XIV en otra bula al a\u00f1o 1756. Los religiosos al hacerse cargo del Santuario de la Virgen, ten\u00edan como fin especial la animaci\u00f3n cultural.<\/p>\n<p>Las distancias que separaban los pueblos de donde proced\u00edan los peregrinos del Santuario hac\u00edan imposible que en una jornada se realizara el viaje. Por eso los fieles deb\u00edan pernoctar en el mismo Santuario, perturbando la tranquilidad de los religiosos. Esto dio lugar a plantearse la construcci\u00f3n de un edificio que sirviere de hospedaje (independiente del convento). El edificio del que hoy a\u00fan podemos contemplar sus ruinas, se construy\u00f3 en el a\u00f1o 1649, y estuvo en uso hasta el fin de la exclaustraci\u00f3n de 1835. Despu\u00e9s fue deterior\u00e1ndose hasta principios de la d\u00e9cada de los 80 cuando se realizaron las \u00faltimas reformas, tanto en el interior como en la cubierta del edificio.<\/p>\n<p>La importancia de este lugar viene determinada sobre todo por la gran afluencia de peregrinos y visitantes que recibe durante todo el a\u00f1o. Sin embargo, cuando mas visitas se realizan es durante el mes de septiembre, principalmente porque son las fiestas a la Virgen, y a partir de estas, todos los domingos del mes se celebran las peregrinaciones a la Virgen.<\/p>\n[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][\/et_pb_section][et_pb_section bb_built=\u00bb1&#8243;
